Frequently Asked Questions About Our Skydiving School

Q: Why Skydive? A: Skydiving inspires such complete focus of attention that all other worries, aggravations and frustrations are forgotten. It charges you with such energy , spirit, and vitality that can be lost through years of ordinary life. The mundane world snaps back with invigorating speed. Skydiving inspires freedom of spirit and attracts some of the most interesting people on earth!

Q: Is there an age limit for skydiving? A: Yes. You must be 18 years of age to partake in any of our skydiving packages.

Q: What will the skydive feel like? A: It is nearly impossible to accurately describe. The sensation of freefall is more like flying than falling. The parachute flight is inspiring. This portion of the skydive can be anything from an exciting roller coaster type event to a quiet and inspiring flight around the open skies. Many say their skydive has been one the the greatest things that has ever happened to them. For some their skydive is life changing.

Q: What happens if the parachute doesn't open? A: In the very unlikely event that the main parachute doesn't open properly, there is a reserve parachute in the top of the container which has been inspected and packed by an FAA certified parachute rigger. All of our reserve parachutes are equipped with the most reliable and modern AAD's (Automatic Activation Device) available, the CYPRESS. (Many other Drop Zones use lower end AAD's. Always ask about this!) Great Lakes Skydiving utilizes this system for your enhanced safety. This is a backup system only.

Q: How long does the skydive last? A: 65 to 75 seconds of freefall and 7 to 9 minutes under the parachute. Add that to the ride in the aircraft (12 minutes).

Q: Is there a weight limit for skydiving? A: Yes. The weight limit at our facility is 250 lbs.

Q: Can I get pictures of my skydive? A: Yes. Still photos and video packages are available upon request.

Q: How much does it cost? A: The cost varies with the type of skydive you make. We offer student, group, and military discounts. All prices are made available through our reservation line at 1-800-490-DIVE (3483).
